Who We Are
Sue Gazdick, Guild President
After retiring from the Cleveland Clinic’s Nursing Institute following a 30-year career, I began flower farming in 2021. What started with eight raised beds on Put-in-Bay and my home gardens in Lakewood has grown into a small, seasonal flower farm offering bouquet subscriptions and florals for intimate events. My love of gardening began in childhood, spending summers on Put-in-Bay working beside my grandfather in his vegetable and strawberry patches, and watching my mother practice floral design under Bill Hixson. I adore growing all kinds of blooms, especially seasonal varieties, and find constant joy in the soil, the scents, and the beauty of every flower. While I dabble in design, my goal this year is to attend floral design school in Chicago to continue growing my design skills.
Morgen Baker- Owner of The Bakers Acres Blooms
The Bakers Acres is made up of a family of five, who love to get their hands dirty. I am a florist, teacher, mother, wife & owner of our flower farm. My husband Jake is a Chemistry teacher at our local high school. We have three children; Kip, Kase & Kapri. The idea for flower farming stemmed from our love of growing our own produce and working for my family owned floral business. I enjoy working with my hands and creating is an artistic outlet for me. We began a garden, adding to it every year. Soon enough I began adding cut flower varieties & once I had more than my own kitchen table could hold, I began to give to friends & family eventually growing enough to sell at our tiny roadside stand.
We are an all hands on deck operation. My three children all enjoy helping me harvest & arrange flowers. My husband is the builder behind all my ideas & helps me to prepare the fields. My friends and family help me with advertising & markets. As the saying goes “love what you do & who you work with”. Our small town has been so supportive during our journey. If you stop by our homestead you will likely be greeted by our golden retriever Marigold or one of our many chickens.
It is truly a dream come true to be able to grow beautiful bouquets right in my own backyard alongside my family.
